Steve Brezler
Mr. Brezler is presently the Director of TriData’s Center for Local Government Studies. With TriData since 2000, Mr. Brezler has managed many of TriData's studies.
A career fire service professional with over 32 years of progressive career experience and responsibility, Mr. Brezler has successfully managed on-scene fire and rescue operations, administration, fire prevention, investigation, training, and human resource management functions and operations. Mr. Brezler has served in both career and volunteer departments from entry level firefighter and emergency medical responder to lieutenant, captain, battalion chief, and finally, as the chief of department.
Beginning his career as a volunteer in 1967, Mr. Brezler’s professional tenure has extended over five decades and includes service in four separate departments, having served as a chief officer in three of them. His experience includes service in a metro sized all-career department (Baltimore City, MD), a metro combination department (Baltimore County, MD), and in two smaller combination departments (Hagerstown and Salisbury, MD). Mr. Brezler retired from public service in 2002 as Chief of the Salisbury, MD Fire Department.
Professionally, Brezler is noted for his in-depth understanding and knowledge of fire department staffing and deployment strategies. Because he has extensive experience in both operations and as an executive, he often finds cost efficient deployment options that lead to improved service levels while also stabilizing cost. On numerous projects, the deployment strategies recommended by Mr. Brezler have resulted in both improved response and value.
From 2000 until 2005 Mr. Brezler served as Senior Program Manager for TriData. During this time he served as senior analyst and project manger on major many projects including those for Brighton, CO; Ottawa, ON; Long Beach, CA; Prince George’s County, MD; Waukesha, WI; Carlisle, PA; Trenton, NJ; Cincinnati, OH; Waterbury, CT; Rome, GA; and Salt Lake City, UT. He also served as senior analyst on several U.S. Navy optimization studies including ones for the San Diego and Puget Sound Naval Districts.
Promoted to Director in April 2005, Mr. Brezler has successfully managed comprehensive studies for Corpus Christi, TX; Branchburg, NJ; Roxbury, NJ; Louisville, KY; Elgin, IL; Lee County, NC; and Aurora, IL. Mr. Brezler is presently directing major TriData studies for our clients in Portland, ME; Toledo, OH; Alexandria, VA; and Trenton, NJ. Notable of his management style as Director is the ability to lead clients and stakeholders through the difficult process of organizational analysis and facilitating different stakeholder opinions into a coherent plan.
Mr. Brezler graduated from the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program in 1998 and is a 1988 graduate of the University of Maryland with a B.S Degree in Fire Science and Management. He is also a 1982 graduate of Montgomery College, Rockville, MD with an A.A. Degree in Fire Science.
