TriData Report on City of Seattle Emergency Preparedness Released by City Council
Arlington, VA, October 2 - TriData, a division System Planning Corporation (SPC), presented its final report on the City of Seattle's emergency preparedness, response and recovery plans at a city council committee meeting in Seattle yesterday.
Jim Compton, chair of the Seattle City Council's Police, Fire, Courts and Technology Committee, called the TriData report "a landmark document that gives us a lot of food for thought."
TriData began its study for the city last October and at times it had a dozen staff members conducting on-site visits and interviewing members of the Mayor's office, Police and Fire Departments, and other agencies involved in preparing Seattle to face emergency management issues.
Committee chair Compton thanked TriData's director of local government studies Jim Weed, who testified at the committee meeting, for the TriData teams hard work. He said that the report gave the City of Seattle a good roadmap for what we need to do to improve its performance in several areas of emergency management planning.
During the hearing, Weed praised the City of Seattle for being best in class in several areas of emergency response management, including its overall approach to the issue. Committee members said that the TriData report provided them with a good means to measure how the City of Seattle stacks up relative to other parts of the country and other cities nationwide.
This report contributes immensely [to knowing] how well prepared we are and where we may be weak or vulnerable and where we need to make some improvements, said one committee member. I thank you for your excellent piece of work.
