Arlington, VA - System Planning Corporation (SPC) today announced that James M. Kudla has been named its Director of Corporate Communications.

"Jim Kudla is a superb communicator and he brings a wealth of external and internal communications experience with him," said SPC Chairman and CEO Dr. Ronald Easley. "He will help us tell the SPC story."

Kudla will develop and implement SPC's strategic communications plan, focusing especially on media relations and employee communications. He will work to build a better understanding of the company's expertise and goals with these two key audiences. Another important responsibility will be to build awareness of SPC's capabilities in the Homeland Security, first responder and emergency preparedness business sectors.

He joins SPC from the U.S. Navy, where he served as an assistant chief of information and commanding officer of the Navy's single largest public affairs organization, the Naval Media Center in Washington, D.C.

As Assistant Chief of Information for Internal Information Programs, Kudla planned and directed the Navy's overall internal information program, including communications efforts aimed at informing Sailors, family members, retirees, veterans, and citizens with an interest in the U.S. Navy. His role was especially critical in the post-9/11 period when his organization's efforts were aimed at preparing the nation's Sailors and their families for fighting the global war on terrorism.

As commanding officer of the Naval Media Center, he oversaw the content and production of the Navy's news web site, daily satellite television news programming, a weekly TV newsmagazine, and the Navy's flagship monthly magazine.

Prior to his service as assistant chief of information, Kudla was a special assistant and public affairs advisor to the Navy's top uniformed leader, the Chief of Naval Operations. In that role, he coordinated external and internal communications efforts for the Navy's chief executive.

His other tours as a military public affairs officer included: Director of Public Affairs at the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, DC, the Navy's human resources command; as Deputy Public Affairs Officer and spokesman for the Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, the Navy command with responsibility for almost half the world's surface area; as Senior Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs at the Pentagon; as head of the Navy desk and East Asia/Pacific Spokesman for the Department of Defense Public Affairs Office at the Pentagon; and as Public Affairs Officer for the Navy's Battle Force in the Mediterranean Sea, which included duty aboard five of the Navy's aircraft carriers.

Prior to being selected as a public affairs specialist, he served as a surface warfare officer aboard a guided missile cruiser and an amphibious assault ship in the Western Pacific and Mediterranean. As a damage control specialist, he was responsible for the prevention of and recovery from shipboard fire, flooding and battle damage.

Kudla, who recently retired from the Navy with the rank of Captain, holds a B.A. in Journalism from Rutgers College, New Brunswick, NJ, and an M.A. in Communication from American University, Washington, DC. He is a native of Passaic, NJ.
