System Planning Corporation Receives "Thank You" From Virginia's Governor
Arlington, Va. (July 26) -- System Planning Corporation (SPC) today announced
that it has received a letter of thanks from Commonwealth of Virginia Governor
Mark R. Warner for its study into the anthrax scares that affected the National
Capital Region last March.
In his letter, Gov. Warner said, "System Planning Corporation's efforts and the
resulting Final Report exceeded expectations. The quantity and quality of
information that was collected and analyzed in the two weeks available to
produce the report stand as a testament to SPC's diligence and commitment to
excellence."
The governor added, "The report helped identify where protocols need to be
changed and reflected where communications procedures worked according to plan."
Charles L. Cragin, SPC's Senior Vice President for National Intelligence,
Security, and Response, who oversaw the effort said, "We are pleased that we
could help the citizens of Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia
better understand what happened. Moreover, we remain committed to helping
communities better prepare for future incidents."
SPC was awarded a contract by the Commonwealth of Virginia March 17 to review
the state and local response into the March 14 anthrax false alarms at the
Pentagon and an office building in Fairfax County, Va. By March 25, SPC
completed a preliminary assessment of its findings and delivered a final report
the next week.
The after action review, based on interviews with response officials in
Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia, includes an incident and
communications timeline to help assess the response among agencies involved. The
review coincided with a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) investigation
into the federal response to the event.
