GlobalTrak® is Awarded America’s First U.S. Patent for a Supply Chain Monitoring Security System
Linda Easley, senior vice president of System Planning Corporation, says
"The GlobalTrak® System solves the problem of knowing where your assets
are—anytime, anyplace. By employing two-way satellite, cellular and local wireless communication,
the automated logistics management system provides end-to-end global supply chain visibility without
fixed readers."
According to Easley, the backbone of GlobalTrak® is its Information
Management Bureau, which facilitates 24x7 monitoring and management of intermodal transportation
similar to controllers who manage air traffic. "Supply chain stakeholders are able to monitor vital
transit conditions including location, trip route, temperature, door opening, and deviations in real
time. Unlike other asset trackers, GlobalTrak® alerts shippers through
sensor status in real-time via secure web access, reducing or eliminating performance uncertainty."
GlobalTrak®, which has participated in a number of government and commercial
trials, is now commercially available. "It’s the only system available today that can provide
real-time management of assets and products in the supply chain without increasing infrastructure
costs. It remains far ahead of other systems in providing immediate return on investment," says
Easley.
Easley further says, "Over the last five years, SPC developed unique expertise in comprehensive
intermodal supply chain tracking, monitoring, and security solutions. As a participant in the
government’s Operation Safe Commerce program, SPC successfully demonstrated
GlobalTrak®’s capabilities to maintain both Total Asset Visibility
(TAV) and In Transit Visibility (ITV). SPC has worked with private sector and government partners
to improve the nation’s ability to know if the 9 million plus containers arriving annually in our
ports are safe and secure."
Commenting on the system’s broad capabilities, GlobalTrak® President and
CEO, Howard Kympton, stated that "The GlobalTrak® unique design employs
communication through a single Container Monitoring Unit. The system does not require any hardware
beyond that in the container—no other readers, communication devices, terminals, or repeaters—a
distinct advantage for minimizing infrastructure costs."
Joe McKinney, VP of Business Development for GlobalTrak® adds, "With its
proprietary Information Management Bureau, we can fuse the observed data with known shipment
information and obtain visibility and security impossible with any other system. Deployed in the
transportation and security industries, GlobalTrak® represents a unique
business solution for the intermodal industries as well as security for the Nation."
