NASA Chooses SPC–Fuentek Team to Support Innovative Partnerships Program

Arlington, Va. (May 8) – The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has selected Virginia-based System Planning Corporation (SPC) and its partner North Carolina–based Fuentek as the team to support the Agency’s Innovative Partnerships Program (IPP).

The contract is a single-award for a five-year period with a maximum ordering potential of $30 million. With experience both in the business and technical aspects of technology transfer, the SPC–Fuentek team will help the IPP achieve its mission: to provide leveraged technology for NASA through technology investments and partnerships with industry, academia, government agencies, and national laboratories.

“This is an exciting time for NASA as it prepares to go to the Moon, Mars, and beyond,” said SPC Vice President James Kudla. “NASA’s IPP can provide significant value to the Agency through partnerships and technology transfer. We look forward to helping the IPP maximize that value.”

In recent years, NASA’s IPP has undergone significant changes to improve its effectiveness while remaining responsive to the congressional intent of the elements within the program. Under this newly awarded contract, the SPC–Fuentek team will work closely with the IPP to advance the technology position of NASA as well as create “dividends” for the Agency’s partners, the U.S. economy, health and medicine, public safety, transportation, environmental protection, and more.

The SPC–Fuentek team will support:

  • Partnership development activities for NASA headquarters and at each of its 10 field centers
  • Outreach activities designed to increase industry awareness of NASA’s Innovative Partnerships Program and promote developed partnerships
  • Management of NASA’s intellectual property, including licensing to commercial companies
  • Special studies and other tasks such as those related to award programs

“Fuentek is pleased to team with SPC for this work,” said Fuentek President Laura A. Schoppe. “I think our complementary skills, knowledge, and experience synergistically combine to be of significant benefit for NASA.”
